Tina deVaron currently delights sell-out crowds of all ages with childrens music and the American Popular Songbook at the legendary Carlyle Hotels Tea with Madeline. On any given weekend afternoon, youll find Tina surrounded by children at the Steinway, singing requests from Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious to Polly Wolly Doodle. Tinas warmth inspires even the shyest ones to sing with joy. And her swinging, inventive piano accompaniments are full of musical surprises that tickle and engage kids of all ages.
You can bring Tina to your community for a special childrens event. Her 50-minute set combines music, movement, and language, and includes the following:
- Walk a Mile in Your Shoes, a rousing interactive song about empathy, with a catchy melody and percussive hand-clap patterns
- So Long, Bye Mom, a traveling song that teaches geography and a touch of ecology, in which Tina and the children build verses together
- An exploration of well-known songs, such as Ive Been Workin on the Railroad
- Turn the World Around, an uplifting favorite about world harmony
- Requests: Always fearless, Tina will invariably ask for the audiences favorites
- Original, impromptu songs, made on the spot from childrens suggestions
Interactive, creative, and often hilarious, Tinas creative approach opens up imaginations to a world of musical and lyrical possibilities. Children leave singing, with an experience they will remember forever, truly an unforgettable gift to families and communities.
Tina accompanies herself on acoustic guitar and piano, but if desired she can also bring a trio of New Yorks most accomplished jazz musicians on bass, guitar, and percussion.
A Princeton grad, Tina deVaron honed her jazz-piano skills playing Cole Porters piano at the Waldorf. While raising her two sons, she has enjoyed chart-topping success as a songwriter and is developing a Broadway musical based on her music about motherhood. Her first CD, If Mama Aint Happy, was called brilliant, funny, and wise, by best-selling author Anne Lamott. Tinas childrens performances and second CD, Who Loves the Children?, have spread her love and astonishing knowledge of the American musical idiom to families from coast to coast. Her new release of originals, Water Over Stones, about raising teenagers, has been hailed by New York Times columnist Lisa Belkin as the soundtrack of my life!
